The Hidden Meaning of Gullivers Travels Gullivers Travels is one of the most beloved satires of all time (Forster 11). Yet, careful analysis shows it to be actually complex with not one definite interpretation. A very surface reading may leave one feeling that the point of the book is dont be Yahoo. This is the message that David Ward feels Gulliver the character is giving and says that it is no more complex than Orwells, four legs good, two legs bad. But this grows out of the fact of Gullivers nature. But there is nothing typical about Gullivers Travels. What blue-belly has accomplished by making Gulliver the embodiment of common English values and beliefs and then having him visit far away lands that are really the mirrors of English society is an interesting satiric device. He forces the English reader to unknowi ngly judge English society, not according to some higher law or pristine observer, but through with(predicate) the lens of their own cherished values. This effectively turns English beliefs and values in on themselves as a test of their merit. Swift echoes this structure by start-off having Gulliver visit a land of little people, which causes one to observe them with scrutiny. The fact that Gulliver is unable to stay with the Houyhnhnms or adhere to their principles after leaving the island, does not mean to me that man is doomed. Eavan Bolands poem amber was published in the Atlantic Monthly in December of 2005. This poem starts off sad, lecture about a death of a friend and how grieving seemed to last forever. Boland shows us this through lines one through five. It then goes on adage that if you animadvert of all the good memories that the grieving process will pass and you can be happy when thinking about the lost friend. Bolands poem Amber is showing us that grieving shouldnt last forever and that memories can take away the horrible feelings and bring happiness when thinking about a lost loved one. In the first five lines Boland presents the death of a friend and the writer is grieving through seasons and centuries (line 4), or in other talking to they are having a hard time getting over the grieving process. She then changes the mood by saying On this fine September afternoon (6). By putting the word fine in she is showing us that grieving is over. She starts talking about an ornament of amber that she is holding and that her friend gave this to her. By saying this she means that her friend gave her all of these memories and she is holding them, or keeping them in her memory. This ornament is the symbol of the memories the writer has of her lost friend. Then the writer is explaining that she has and memories because The dead cannot see the living (11) and vise versa. Boland then brings three images of seeds, leaves and feathers to our minds to present them as memories of a lost friend. In the middle of the poem Boland describes these memories by saying as it fell and fell, (15 and 16). By using it this shows that all of these memories are clumped together as one which makes them stronger. After this she goes on by saying which now in a sunny atmosphere seem as breathing as they ever were (17 and 18). This is saying that the memories now bring bright and happy feelings and they seem alive because the memories are so strong that they seem as if they are real. When the writer r efers to a Baltic honey this is referring back to the ornament of amber and how she was holding it in her hand, as if memories could be held. She then goes on to tell us a little about the friendship.

If they were to be censored or taken away people would be left dangling wondering what next. I will inform my audience about the laws (SOPA AND PIPA), how it will censor sites, which sites may be affected, what sites did to prevent it, and when were they introduced.Also how censorship may cause some sites to shut set down completely. The two laws will cause them to lose their viral services, no longer being able to inform users with information. SOPA (stop online piracy) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are two acts that are going to be used to censor the internet and sites affiliated with it. SOPA is a United States bill introduced to expand the ability of U. S law enforcement to fight online traffickin g in copyrighted property and counterfeit goods as stated on local website Wikipedia.According to Wikipedia PIPA is a proposed law with the stated goal of giving the US organization and copyright bandageers additional tools to curb access to rogue websites dedicated to infringing or counterfeit goods. These are both acts that are going to serve as a blockage to the internet. SOPA was first introduced on October 26, 2011 and PIPA introduced May 12, 2011 according to Jamal a local writer. Although they were both introduced recently they are both put on hold due to sites petitioning and finding ways to fight against the two.Sites that would be affected by the two acts were sites like Wikipedia, Google, and many other sites that may provide things like euphony downloads and other information.
